Christmas, Christmas in Kettering, kettering, Switch On, will mellor

Kettering Borough Council is proud to announce that actor, singer and model, Will Mellor, will kick off the Christmas in Kettering 2019 celebrations by turning on the town’s lights!

The Hollyoaks, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and more recently Line of Duty star will take to the stage at the eagerly anticipated BIG Switch On event on Thursday 28th November, starting at 4pm.

Come along and meet the star of Cinderella Panto at Lighthouse Theatre, Kettering, and enjoy: Kettering Town Silver Band, KLF Choir, Animatronic Polar Bear, Kettering Lions Santa Sleigh, Market Stalls, Food Traders and much more festive fun!

The full schedule for the BIG Switch On will be released soon, so keep your eyes peeled as you won’t want to miss what’s in store this year!

TV Star Will Mellor will help kick off Christmas in Kettering this year by turning on the town’s lights at the eagerly anticipated ‘BIG Switch On’ event. The Hollyoaks and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps star will take to the stage on Kettering Market Place on Thursday 28^th November as part of a fun festive schedule.

The BIG Switch on will run from 4pm-8pm, hosted by local community radio station Shire Sounds. In addition to Will, the event will feature CBBC’s Ed Petrie from the Lighthouse Theatre’s Panto ‘Cinderella’, plus live music and entertainment for the whole family. YouthWorks and Johnny’s Happy Place’s Lantern Parade will once again conclude at the Market Place to join the celebrations. The town’s festive celebrations will include performances from Beat Project Dance Company, KLF Choir (Kingsley & Red Kite Academy), Kettering Town Silver Band, Kettering Singer Vicki Becks plus duets with Kara Smith and Dave Lee and Kettering’s Own Ska, New Wave and Punk band The Fevers, plus a funfair, vortex, fire engine, Kettering Lions’ Santa Sleigh, street performers, a giant polar bear and much more!

There will be plenty of chances to support your local town centre with a special Christmas Market on Kettering Market Place on Thursday 5^th December and the return of Small Business Saturday and the Teenage Market on Saturday 7^th December. There’ll also be the chance to get your skates on and enjoy a free ice rink and curling lane at our Christmas Fun Day on the Market Place on Saturday 14^th December, 10am-4pm. Join us for a festive singalong with Christmas Carols with Mrs Claus and Kettering Citadel Band and choir on Saturday 21^st December from 2pm on the Market Place!

As part of the Christmas festivities, and to support local businesses, Kettering Borough Council is offering FREE parking in its town centre car parks on the following days in December*:

all day on Saturday 7^th, 14^th and 21^st December 2019, and
after 3pm on Thursday 28^th November, and 5^th, 12^th and 19^th December 2019

These dates are in addition to the free parking that already operates in Council owned car parks on Sundays (all day) and evenings (after 6pm).

Kettering snooker sensation Kyren Wilson will help kick off Christmas in Kettering this year by turning on the town’s lights at the eagerly anticipated ‘BIG Switch On’ event. The local born sports star will take to the stage on Kettering Market Place on Thursday 29^th November as part of a fun festive schedule.

The BIG Switch on will run from 4.45-8pm and, in addition to Wilson, will be hosted by Connect FM and will feature Malcolm ‘The Fish Man’ Vials and the cast of the Lighthouse Theatre’s Christmas Panto ‘Aladdin’ plus live music and entertainment for the whole family.

There will be plenty of chances to support your local town centre with late night shopping on Thursdays from 29^th November. Small Business Saturday and the Teenage Market return on 1^st December and a special Christmas Market will be held on Kettering Market Place on Thursday 6^th December. There’ll also be the chance to get your skates on and enjoy a free pop-up ice rink (Saturday 1st, 8th & 15th December, 10am-4pm) and wrap up warm and watch festive film, The Polar Express, on the Big Screen on Thursday 20th December at 5pm, both will be held on the Market Place.

Also, why not try and complete our new 12 days of Christmas Trail, running on 1st, 8th, 15th, 20th, 21st & 22nd December? Grab a map from the Manor House Museum and explore the town centre to find twelve clues in different shops and claim your treat.

TV star comedian James Acaster will help kick off Christmas in Kettering this year by turning on the town’s lights at the eagerly anticipated ‘BIG Switch On’ event. The local born comedian will take to the stage on Kettering Market Place on Thursday 30^th November as part of a fun festive schedule.

The BIG Switch on will run from 5-7.30pm and, in addition to Acaster, will be hosted by Connect FM and will feature the cast of the Lighthouse Theatre’s Christmas Panto ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ plus live music and entertainment for the whole family.

James Acaster Christmas in Kettering Event Lights Switch On

Stand-up comedian James Acaster has become a regular on TV panel shows such as Mock the Week and 8 out of 10 cats and has received acclaim from around the world, including a record breaking 5 consecutive nominations for ‘Best Comedy Show’ at the 2012-2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festivals. He also returned to Kettering to film a series of comedy shorts as he visits some of his old haunts and around the town, including Boughton House, The Manor House Museum and Wicksteed Park. *Watch all six ‘Sweet Home Ketteringa’ videos*

Christmas in Kettering 2016

Ex-Eastender Cheryl Fergison and Lighthouse Theatre panto star Lucie Downer switched on Kettering\’s Christmas lights on the Market Place last year.

James Acaster said: “Kettering has always lit up my life and I am humbled to be able to do the same for Kettering”

The programme of festivities we have put on will provide a range of attractions for the whole family. Christmas this year is definitely in Kettering!”
