History Day: Kettering Past Remembered

The History Day will explore aspects of the historic town of Kettering with some of the events, people, places and buildings that have helped shape the town. From Friends of Kettering Art Gallery & Museum, with Kettering Civic Society and Northamptonshire Heritage Forum featuring speakers including: Steve Sharpe, Ian Luck, David Brown, Tracey Clarke, Phil Steele, Delia Thomas, Andrea Pettingale.
10.00 Welcome – David Brown
10.05 Kettering Archaeology – Steve Sharpe
10.30 The History of Kettering – David Brown
11.45 Kettering’s Artistic Heritage – Ian Luck
12.30 The History of Wicksteed Park – Tracey Clarke
14.00 A choice of one of the following tours:
1. A tour of London Road Cemetery.
David Brown (General), Ian Luck (Artists),
Phil Steele (Military)
2. A tour of the Parish Church of St. Peter and
St. Paul, followed by a brief tour of the Manor
House Museum (Manager: Karen Adhemar)
and the Alfred East Art Gallery (Manager: Billie
3. The north town. Early religion/non-conformist
sites, shoes and missionaries. – Delia Thomas
4. The south town. Monumental buildings, banks
and almshouses. – Andrea Pettingale
