January’s Talk – Mayan Architecture by Sylvia Stock
Sylvia studied architecture at university in Mexico, with her thesis based in ancient Mayan buildings. She will bring a unique and personal insight into this magnificent and mysterious culture.
Silvia is originally from Yucatan, Mexico, and grew up and lived in Tabasco, Chiapas and Yucatan, some of the most important areas of the geographic Mayan occupation, having the opportunity to visit many of the most important Mayan sites in Mexico and also studied the subject as part of her University Degree.
The Maya civilisation was a Mesoamerican civilisation that developed in an area that encompasses Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador y Honduras. Come and learn about the political and social organisation, religious believes, astronomy, writing and maths, art and technology and Architecture, and many other socio-cultural aspects of this mysterious and enigmatic civilisation. Let’s travel around magnificent Mayan cities with astonishing temples, palaces, and monumental pyramids like Chichén Itzá, one of the new wonders of the world and an example of the majesty of the Ancient Mayan World.
